چکیده

When acquiring the surface data of the sample part, it is not easy to get the full data on one scan due to the configuration or topology of the part. In addition, some special parts have special assembly request, for example the joint surface smooth and the boundary share. The process usually requires multiple scans for an assembly model. Some identical points have different coordinate data because of the moving of the part. As a result, before the model reconstruction the digitized data must be registered or aligned. According to the geometric graphics transform theory, this work develops a digitized point sets registration method, which is based on the coordinate transform. The method utilizes measured three datumpoint data in different coordinate systems to calculate the rotation and translation matrix. If the measurement error cannot be ignored, the least-square method may be applied to find the closest points. Finally, this method is adopted to the clay model of the motorcycle surface in reverse engineering, the data registration meets the design precision. 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Simultaneous Registration of Multiple Range

When reverse engineering a CAD model, it is necessary to integrate information from several views of an object into a common reference frame. Given a rough initial alignment of local 3-D shape data in several images, further re nement is achieved using an improved version of the recently popular Iterative Closest Point algorithm. Improved data correspondence is determined by considering the mer...

Optimization of Point Clouds Registration by Means of a Hybrid Algorithm

An important area in Reverse Engineering applications is the combination of multiple scans of a 3D product to model the object. Moreover the registration refinement of multiple range images is a crucial step in multiview 3D modeling. In the present paper a hybrid optimization method is developed to align point clouds, without any user-applied initial alignment. The proposed method combines a ge...

Reverse engineering of a symmetric object

This paper presents a procedure to find an approximate symmetry plane from a point cloud for the reverse engineering of a symmetric object. Even if, the point cloud acquired from a symmetric object does not have exact symmetry planes in the mathematical sense, the data usually carries adequate symmetric information for reverse engineering. To generate a CAD model satisfying the original aesthet...

Registration of Range Data Using a Hybrid Simulated Annealing and Iterative Closest Point Algorithm

The need to register data is abundant in applications such as: world modeling, part inspection and manufacturing, object recognition, pose estimation, robotic navigation, and reverse engineering. Registration occurs by aligning the regions that are common to multiple images. The largest difficulty in performing this registration is dealing with outliers and local minima while remaining efficien...

An Approach for Accurate Edging using Dynamic Membership Functions

In this paper, by means of fuzzy approaches, an accurate method is introduced for edging of color photographs. The difference between our method with other similar methods is the use of a morphological operation to think or thick the obtained edges. In this proposed method, a 3×3 window is dragged on the photo. For each block, 12 point sets will be defined, each including two non-overlapping po...
